We are a Rights Respecting School and have achieved the Level 1 Award. We are currently gathering evidence for the Level 2 Rights Respecting Schools Award which is the highest level of the Award. The award will be granted by Unicef UK to schools that have fully embedded children’s rights throughout the school in its policies, practice and ethos.
At Bournehall we have a steering group, which meets every weeks made up of representatives from each class and adults representing different aspects of our school community.
The steering group helps to organise charters for the classroom, the playground and the dining room. We also organise Rights Respecting assemblies, create displays and talk to adults and children to raise awareness of our rights.
We start each school year with a UNICEF day. We also join in with regular campaigns to support children’s rights globally, including the annual Day for Change event.
Below is an example of a class charter.
