Welcome letter from the Headteacher

6 September 2023 (by admin)

We hope that you all had an enjoyable summer even though the weather was not exactly as we would have expected. It was lovely to see the children coming back into school looking very smart and, in the majority of cases, with big smiles on their faces.

We would like to begin the new academic year with a very warm welcome to all of our new parents. We hope that in the years to come the relationship between parent and school is a mutually positive one and that your children enjoy their time here at Bournehall Primary School. No doubt in the coming weeks and months there will be many things that you do not understand but remember that we have an open door policy and will be only too happy to answer any queries you may have. If your child’s class teacher is not on the door in the morning, you can ring the school office and ask for a call back.

We are sure that you will have been reading or listening to the recent news around the safety issues at some schools. The local authority have issued the following press statement today that will alleviate any concerns you may have:

Hertfordshire County Council is not aware of any Hertfordshire schools needing to close as a result of the direction from the Department for Education (DfE) on managing Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) in schools.

Between 2020 and 2021, we carried out surveys on 279 local authority maintained schools that had buildings constructed between 1959 and 1989, the risk period initially identified by the DfE. This identified three schools that needed remediation works, and those works were completed in 2022. While we have no reason to believe that any other school buildings contain RAAC, as a precaution we will now also be carrying out surveys on schools with buildings built in the 1950s and early 90s, which are at lower risk.

As you can imagine schools are very busy places and there are always a number of things we need to notify to parents. To help parents with planning their personal diaries we have attached an overview of things that will be happening at Bournehall Primary School over the academic year. Please be aware that sometimes we may need to change dates or add additional events etc. as the year progresses.

We look forward to seeing you all over the next few weeks if not on the playground then at the meet the teacher evening next week and parent consultations that will be taking place next month.
